Letter from Dr. Henderson about Brigitte's Daisy

Postby patchnmike » Wed Mar 21, 2012 11:36 pm

From Dr. Henderson:
Today I had to make a very difficult decision. I have struggled over this for several weeks but realized I must say goodbye to Brigitte's Daisy.

Many of you have seen Daisy in the Parade of Rescues at the National with Brigitte for the past several years. Daisy proudly wore her rescue vest and collected money for rescue. Daisy had an injury to her legs that left her with semi paralysis. However, she still managed to get around.

Daisy and Bambi came to live with me after Brigitte's death. Daisy had been doing fairly well getting around but the past few months she became progressively worse and I had to walk her with a sling. Her front end wanted to go but the rear would not cooperate. She would let me know when she needed go out and very seldom had an accident. She could only eat if hand fed and drink when offered as she was unable to support herself. She was still happy with Bambi taking care of her and seemed to adjust to her life. However, the past few weeks her quality began to deteriorate and I had to make the difficult decision to let her go home to Brigitte. Daisy has now crossed the Rainbow Bridge and into Brigitte's waiting arms.

Run free sweet Daisy Mae we will miss you.
Barbara

Such a sad letter. Daisy was always a great favorite of mine. Such a lovely little soul. I hope she is reunited with her mummy now.
What I need right now is a strong drink and a peer group.

I talked with Barbara yesterday and she told me about Daisy's condition. Daisy and Bambi had to be together all the time in the same kennel on the ground floor so Bambi and all the humans could take care of little Daisy. Bambi would cover Daisy's little body with her own and keep her close. Bambi will now move upstairs into Barbara's home and be a lady of total leisure. I tried to pry Bambi away from Barbara as I had babysat her so much and am very attached to her also....no deal....Barbara loves her too. Bambi was Brigitte's matriarch even though she had never had pups, and she ruled the roost like a fussy mother hen. I am sure she will miss Miss Daisy but will have the pride of place for her retirement.
