dock dog champion

Postby indogolfing » Mon Jun 11, 2012 1:16 am

I don't know if anyone else saw the purina incredible dog challenge, but a whippet won the dock dog competition, and set a new world record in the process! His name is Cochiti and he's a good looking whippet as well, and also an oval champion. I was able to watch it online at my parent's house (my internet is too slow) and it was really something to see!

Just did a search for Cochiti, it seems a whippet worlder was there with her camera at an earlier meeting last year, and she's one of my heros when it comes to photographing sporting whippets, it's Bayberry, Julie Ward!

I missed the dock diving, but I've gone to see Cochiti jump before in Puyallup, WA. He's a really amazing dog. For those of you on FB, this is his page:

I love looking at the flying whippet pictures!

Yep! The big Cheese really out did himself this time. Diane Salts bred him and he has been pretty darn good at everything he has tried. I have gone to see him jump off the dock a few times - but his leap yesterday was a monster. I'm really happy for Diane. :banana-dance: Now he will be competing in the World Championships in October @ Purina Farm.

Just been watching his 27ft+ jump (earlier this year) on YouTube - he certainly flies! :handgestures-thumbup:

He is awesome and the fact that he is not a 'water dog' breed really communicates the true versatility of this wondrous breed. I only hope that throngs of dock-diving 'wannabes' don't all rush out and buy whippets to increase their chances of winning a championship. Four out of five of my whippets avoid walking through puddles and have to be reminded to empty their bladder if it is raining! I love watching Cochiti, but I think he is definitely the exception rather than the rule when it comes to whippets. Perhaps Cochiti's love of water is a familial trait?

Looking forward to watching Cochiti soar to new lengths!

I don't know, it could be how they are raised too. Lemmy will go out in a downpour if I ask him to and he's in the pool every day. I think Mikes Milhouse could definitely be a contender, I was blown away by how far he jumps in to the water. Way to go Cochiti - what an awesome accomplishment!

His son Chili jumps too. Could be a familial trait. I know Sigi won't even walk through a puddle if he can help it. Jazz doesn't seem to care.
