Hi there everyone!

I'm very excited to join this site and connect with and learn from a fabulous community of whippet folks :) I'm expecting my first whippet before summer (The dam's due date is the 4th of March!) and I am beyond excited. Also anxious, but it's a happy kind of anxious :D I'm hoping for a male pup and plan to participate in flyball and lure coursing with him.

A little about me:
I'm 26 years old and I have a canine obedience trainers certificate (I use positive reinforcement/reward based clicker training ONLY) which I obtained initially to pursue a possible career in training, but in the end I only ever used it for my own dogs/cats. Speaking of cats, I have three, 2 five year old adoptees and an 11 month old kitten who we're pretty sure was a dog in another life. He sits, stays, fetches and will gobble any food you leave unattended :)
I am now out of school and working as an insurance advisor.

I live in an apartment currently with plans to move in with my boyfriend at some point next year once he purchases his home from his father. I invested in a mini van about a year ago with the express purpose of hauling around a large sighthound (or 2!). At that time I was planning on adopting a retired racing greyhound, however my brother (who lives with me currently) said he would prefer a smaller breed of dog in the home while I am still sharing living arrangements with him, so the hunt was on for a smaller sighthound, which is ultimately what lead me to whippets and I've fallen in love :) I still hope to add a retired racer to my home some day, but for now I've settled for making donations and getting my greyhound fix when local rescues do meet and greets at petsmart ^_^

Hi, I'm Babette and I have a new male Whippet, Joker, who is about to turn a yaer old. I live in Colorado and would love to meet other local Whippet people. We are going to the Brighton dog show and the Whippet National. Joker originally had another name but he renamed himself based on his personality. He talks constantly and it almost sounds like he is speaking English.
Joker is my third Whippet and I am in love with the breed.
I look forward to meeting many other Whippet people!

Welcome, new folks! Yes, there is a thread that should be pinned near the top of the board to help with posting photos (you have to use a site such as Photobucket) and we'd love to see them :D And Babette, enjoy the National - it's a wonderful experience! We're hoping to go again next year, when it's back on our side of the country (Maryland).

Hello everyone!

Thank you so much for allowing me to join your forum. I currently have one 7 year old male Whippet. I will be receiving a female Whippet puppy on the 13th of June. Her breeder is bringing her and one of her litter mates to us all the way from Isreal. I'm very excited to finally meet her.
I lost my last female Whippet 2 years ago to CHF at only 8 years of age. My heart is still broken as she was very, very special to me.
We also have 2 male Silken Windhounds. They've been loads of fun and are absolutely gorgeous dogs. Looking forward to chatting with you all. :)

Hi everyone :) Thanks for letting me join Whippet World.

I'm Gill, 49 years young, married to Neil and we live in the rural town of Alnwick in Northumberland. I'm a lifelong animal nut and had virtually everything except a pony when I was a kid (it drove my mother nuts  ) and I used to go to training school with my whippet-X Lady in the early 80's. The club, North British Canine Training Society, was half pet obedience and half ringcraft and I soon started tagging along to shows with other members. Even then I was always drawn to the elegance and sheer perfection of the Whippet breed. Once I left home I soon met a guy who had a racing whippet called Tiggy. We split up after two years however and he wouldn't let me take Tiggy so it was a few more years before I could have my own whippie once more. She was called Tina, black & white, lot of Barnesmore & Sooty Sam breeding and I just loved her to bits :romance-inlove: Sadly I lost her in a tragic accident in August 2008 and for years I blamed myself and refused to ever allow myself a dog again. Instead, we fostered old and abused cats for a local small charity from 2009 - 2015.

We now have two rescue cats ~ Phoebe who is tortoiseshell and was found wandering & pregnant last summer by a friend. I adopted her and her son Loki (grey & white) and they're HUGE characters. I always still had a hankering for a hound though and decided that recently it was time to start looking. My working hours are perfect for a dog and Neil is at home all day and as I turn 50 in March....well, I'd rather have a pup than a diamond ring, eh? :confusion-shrug: She (Neil insists she has to be a girl! ) could even be an older rescue.....just so long as she is ok with cats (our two are bombproof around dogs as they came from a home where the owner had two Golden Retrievers and we recently looked after a friend's Staffie for a week and, again, both cats were fine) and is happy with the best food, best soft beds and LOTS of lovely beach and countryside walks in glorious Northumberland with us :D

I'm sure she is out there somewhere and will find her way to us......but in the meantime I'll just have to get my doggy fix from all you lovely guys

Hey-lo, Hey-lo!

I've been a slave to whippets since I was in jr high when my parents adopted Domino, then Joey. Ever since I've been a sighthound snob, LOL. I currently have a service dog named Aaerro who is a Whippet/Italian Greyhound cross. When she passes, my next dog will very likely be either a retired racing Greyhound or my beloved Whippet. The breed is perfect for me...intense without having to run all day, cuddly and snuggly and absolutely wonderful moochers when it comes to sleeping with you in bed!

So hope to see more of you around :D

Hello! I'm Sarah and I'll be welcoming a 14 week-old whippet pup into my home next week! I already have a large 10 month-old Italian Greyhound mix who is super active and dog-social, so I'm hoping they'll zoom around with each other, snuggle, and just be besties. :) Looking forward to meeting you all!

Hello I am new to the Website. Karen here! I have 2 gorgeous whippets...a ten your old and a 1 year old. Does any one know of any decent vets who specialise in whippet style injuries in the Hampshire area? I live in North Hampshire in Basingstoke so Berkshire and Surrey also in easy reach. This is in relation to a knocked toe injury. Thanks guys
